Want to win FREE tickets to Blonde Redhead?

Help us get the word out about the Blonde Redhead concert on Saturday, June 27, and we’ll enter you into a drawing to win Blonde Redhead and MASS MoCA swag, including tickets to the performance!

1. Download PDF poster and print copies in either C or B/W.

2. Hang posters in your community, your school, etc. (Anywhere other people are going to see the posters.) We aren’t responsible if you get in trouble for postering where you shouldn’t, so ask permission before posting on anyone’s private property.

3. Take a photo of every poster that you hang. (Cell phone photos are fine)

4. Add photos to our Blonde Redhead Poster Contest Flickr Group. (Not a member of Flickr? Click for more information and to sign up for an account)

5. Every 10 photos of different poster locations added to the Flickr group enters you into the drawing.

6. All entries must be added to the Flickr group by midnight of 6/21/09.

7. Winners will be drawn and contacted on 6/24/09.

Questions? E-mail me at bbishop@massmoca.org.

Happy postering!

Cheers,

Brittany

Turning 10 is a big deal

A blog from our awesome Membership Manager Rebecca:

Entering the double digits means you are officially an Adult—or at least it did to me when I turned 10. In fact I have never felt as old or as mature as I did that year, and I celebrated in style, with a “fancy” birthday party. I sent my 10 closest friends invitations on scrolls—paper rolled up in recycled paper towel tubes and sent through the mail—and donned my favorite outfit, a turquoise dress that was several sizes too big for me, my Dorothy-inspired ruby red Read the rest of this entry »

We need your help!

Letters of support to legislators for our two shovel ready projects would be invaluable in helping secure this funding for North Adams and the Berkshires.

MASS MoCA’s projects under consideration are:

1.  Solar Center:  Expanding on our successful existing array of solar panels we have proposed increasing our capacity to turn the sun into electricity tenfold and creating a public showcase and educational training facility for large scale solar energy technologies.  Download a PDF to learn more.

2. Berkshire Art & Archive Center, a 30,000 sf, climate-controlled, high-security archive, art storage and digitalization facility that would be built on the existing 8,500-square-foot concrete foundation of the former Building 15, which was torn down in 2004.  The Center would not only provide storage and archive space for the museum, but also lease space to cultural institutions and collectors. More details.

You can help make this a reality by calling, writing, or emailing your legislators listed here

State & Federal Officials

The Honorable Deval Patrick
Executive Office
State House
Boston, MA 02133

The Honorable Timothy P. Murray
Lieutenant Governor

MASS MoCA makes cents

MA QuarterThe U.S. Mint has asked Governor Deval Patrick to select one preferred and three alternate Massachusetts national sites to be featured on the reverse of a quarter in 2010. Governor Patrick is calling on the people of Massachusetts to help with this decision.

Included in the list of possible images is Arnold Print Works (MASS MoCA) as well as other Berkshire area sites. VOTE NOW to see your favorite Berkshire attraction on the back of the quarter!

You can vote as often as you would like until 5:00 p.m. February 26, 2009.

I Love You

I love our members
So much that I can’t help but
Write really bad haiku.

Okay, so maybe my poetry skills aren’t that great, but I really do love all of the MASS MoCA members. Your support helps us continue our mission of commissioning, facilitating, and exhibiting the best and most cutting-edge contemporary art. To show our appreciation in non-lyrical form, we invite you to MEMBER APPRECIATION DAY!

On Saturday, September 27th we’re offering all kinds of great discounts and activities for members to say thank you for supporting us. Members can:

  • Bring a friend for free! Show your friends how great the MASS MoCA galleries are. Each member can bring one guest for free gallery admission.
  • Attend an artist talk! Artist Alexis Rockman, whose painting South is featured in the current Badlands exhibit, will talk about his work and its relation to the environment. 2 pm. FREE for members; $5 for not-yet members. Tickets are required from the Box Office (413.MoCA.111).
  • Get a performance preview! At noon, hear artist-in-residence Nick Brooke give a short explanation of his Time and Motion Study, which will be given as a work-in-progress showing at 8 pm in the Hunter Center.
  • Save more at the store! Get 20% off at Hardware: The MASS MoCA Store and stock up on all your favorite toys, books, jewelry and more inspired by contemporary art.
  • Save more on a snack! Receive 20% off at MASS MoCA cafĂ© Lickety Split. Nothing hits the spot after a day in the galleries like their Harrell’s ice cream. Or enjoy drinks, lunch, or baked goods.
  • Take the kids on a tour! At 11 am take a free tour specially designed for kids and families.
  • Learn more about the art! Take a free gallery tour and learn more about the art on display. Tours will be available at noon, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 5 pm.

I hope to see you there! If I run into you I might just compose a spontaneous haiku about my undying love for members.

Extremely sincerely yours,
Rebecca Rice
