An Exploration of the MASS MoCA Galaxy

Our amazing Marketing intern Will has put together an adventure through MASS MoCA that will make everyone sit at the edge of their seats. Enjoy the first chapter below…

A long time ago in a gallery far, far away…

There lay hidden a piece of a story told long ago. Trapped within the rubble of a recent exhibition, the Millennium Falcon and its famous passengers are wondering if they will ever be able to release themselves from this chaotic star system they call KidSpace. To the passengers KidSpace does not resemble any type of outerspace they have yet to encounter (and that is a lot if you think about how long R2D2 and C-3PO have been around). After hours of frustrating efforts to remove themselves they finally broke free with the help of a little Wookie muscle and a little help from the Force.

Josh Ritter and Ben Kweller visit MASS MoCA (Part 1)

Yesterday we were delighted to find out that MASS MoCA Fest artists Josh Ritter and Ben Kweller were visiting the museum. My intern MacKenzie and I met them in the parking lot and offered to show them around the spaces. The singers were incredibly nice and quickly agreed to let us photo log their adventures through MASS MoCA.

We started with a photo op at the big yellow arrow pointing from the parking lot.

Then Josh and Ben took a few moments to bask in the shade of the upside down trees.

Deep in conversation about their musical processes we invited them to lounge in the rubber tubing chairs in the To Cribbage building built by current Kidspace artist Matt Bua.

Worried that they wouldn’t have enough time to see everything in the galleries if we let them stay, we encouraged Josh and Ben to actually go inside the museum but first we had another photo op with our yellow signage.

Wondering what happened next? Stay tuned for Josh and Ben getting their tickets and an unfortunate brush with security…

In the mean time help us spread the word about MASS MoCA Fest happening on August 15.¬† Post our e-flier (below with HTML code) on your favorite social networking sites by August 13 and we’ll enter you into a drawing for FREE tickets! Just send me a link¬† to every site you post the flier on at bbishop@massmoca.org (subject line: MASS MoCA Fest E-Flier). You can also e-mail the flier to your friends, just make sure to CC me on the e-mail.

Very special art class for kids

B.G.T.W. pg 1 b detail

Its not every day that kids get to learn from a renowned artist, but Tuesday, August 4 and Thursday August 6, will be two days when kids can learn from a pro.  On these days from 9:30-11:00   young artists will combine inspiration from Matt Bua’s collection of found objects in CRIBS and George Cochrane’s unique medium of graphic novels in Long Time Gone to create their own comic strips. Emerging cartoonists will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work with artist George Cochrane and his daughter, Fiamma, to learn about the art of creating a graphic novel.  In this two part class, they’ll explore Matt Bua and George Cochrane’s exhibitions at MASS MoCA before moving downtown on August 6th to complete their project and discover more of the artists’ work at their respective galleries in downtown North Adams.

This two-session drop off art class for 6-12 year olds is just $10 per child
