Clocktower Awards presented at 10th Anniversary Ball

10th-anniversary

Recipients of the Clocktower Society awards are chosen for their contribution to the nation’s cultural life through their extraordinary comitment to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.  At MASS MoCA’s 10th Anniversary Ball on May 23, 2009, MASS MoCA inducted three new members into its Clocktower Society:  Michael Dukakis (former governor of Massachusetts), Allan Fulkerson (former Chairman of the Board, MASS MoCA), and Susy Wadsworth (MASS MoCA trustee).  Read the rest of this entry »

Roomful of Teeth Interview

teethformoca_500

For the last two weeks MASS MoCA has hosted Brad Wells’ Roomful of Teeth; a choral ensemble working to combine non-western song styles in a choral concert setting. Working with contemporary composers Rinde Eckhart and Judd Greenstien, the group of musicians is learning new vocal techniques (such as Tuvan throat singing and yodeling) as they also learn newly composed music. The group will take the stage tonight, June 26, at 8 PM to show off what they have been working on.

Watch an interview with Judd Greenstien on our YouTube page to hear what he has to say about the project and his time here at MASS MoCA.

I sat in on dress rehearsal last night and can guarntee that you won’t be dissapointed by what Roomful of Teeth has put together. There are still a few tickets avalible for the performance, order yours here.

Cheers,

Brittany

The World According to Wally

A blog from awesome performing arts intern Rachel about her chance to participate in Wally Cardona’s work-in-progress showing of Really Real on June 6. Watch video of the Really Real rehearsal at our You Tube page.

HiRes_500

Wally’s world consists of no more and no less than reality; the raw reality of the human form and all of its phenomena. The title of Wally Cardona’s new work-in-progress is a reflection of that world. Really Real is currently an 80 minute work created for a core group of 6 dancers. When premiered at the Festival of Arts & Ideas in its final form, Really Real will also feature 30 to 40 local performers from the community, dancers and non-dancers alike.

Due to the lack of “human resources”, the number of community dancers participating in the showing of Really Real as a work-in-progress, was very limited. Being an intern here at MASS  MoCA, and someone who has danced for years, I was very excited to be given the opportunity to work with Wally on his new piece. Advertised as simple “movers” I did not know what to expect going into the first rehearsal. The first Read the rest of this entry »

Did You Know?

A blog from Membership Manager Rebecca Rice:

Behind_Round2

I’ve been working at MASS MoCA for a year, and I’m still fascinated by the museum and the long industrial history of our campus.  For example, did you know that Arnold Print Works, which operated on our campus from the 1860s until 1942, produced cloth for Union Army soldiers’ uniforms during the Civil War?

Or that we’re constantly defying physics and gravity with our art?  In 2004-2005 we suspended nine cars from the roof Read the rest of this entry »
