Plants for Sale, Plants for Sale, $25 a Plant

Its rare to find a jungle in an art museum and even rarer to find one in North Adams, but as the photo above, (snapped just this morning in the MASS MoCA lobby) shows we are in possession of a stunning collection of jungle foliage and looking to deaccession it all quickly.¬† Not just plants, these ficus, philodendrons and more are art — they were part of Yutaka Sone’s piece in Badlands. The exhibition has closed and the plants are all in need of good homes so we’re selling them for just $25 each.¬† They are a real bargain, just try to find a 9′ tall ficus for less than three sawbucks!

Time is limited on this sale so don’t delay, stop in today to pick out your plant and support MASS MoCA at the same time.¬† We’re open 11 – 5 Wednesday through Monday. Cash and carry.

Look, up in the air!

From time to time¬† Joe Thompson, MASS MoCA‚Äôs Director, let’s you know what’s happening at MASS MoCA. This week Joe (a licensed pilot) shares his recent flying adventure with artist Guy Ben-Ner and a few MASS MoCA staff members.

Last week, Dante Birch (MASS MoCA‚Äôs A/V and installation guru), artist Guy Ben-Ner, Gene Rutigliano (MASS MoCA’s Curatorial Assistant and the photographer behind the camera in these shots) and I hopped in a plane to fly to the town of Wyoming, Delaware. Read the rest of this entry »

Aw Shucks

Director of Good Ol’ Charles Schulz, David Van Taylor, recently made a trip to MASS MoCA¬† to screen his film and explore the galleries with his family. After his visit he had this to share:

It was great to screen GOOD OL’ CHARLES SCHULZ at MASS MoCA. The screening space is funky and commodious.¬† The performing arts staff including Sue (Managing Director of Performing Arts), Meghan (Company Manager) and Meredith (Assistant to the Managing Director of PA) treated us like real artists–something documentary filmmakers don’t always get. ¬†The audience was great and diverse (some Linuses, some Snoopies, a Pig Pen and even a Woodstock) and we had a lively discussion after the screening.

A studio visit with Timothy Nazzaro

One of the big advantages to working at such a cool institution is that the other staff members and I get the opportunity to know really amazing, talented people.¬† Last week I stopped by photographer Timothy Nazzaro’s studio/darkroom to take a peek at a few of his upcoming projects.

After seeing his space/work I was eager to share it all with you, luckily he gave me permission to post a few of his photos. Read the rest of this entry »
