The case of the yellow puddles
I returned from my lunch this afternoon to find my 4th floor colleagues huddled around the windows overlooking our front courtyard. Just what could be so interesting to create such commotion? Yellow puddles!

Apparently two young artists that were visiting the museum today took the opportunity to turn our rainy day puddles into yellow ‘works of art’.

These puddles sparked a debate amongst my art loving colleagues. Are these puddles art or are they vandalism? What good reason could someone have to turn perfectly good puddles yellow? Some of us like them, some of us don’t. What’s your take blog readers? Art or not?
Cheers,
Brittany

LA Times Suggests LeWitt Side Trip

We are delighted with Christopher Knight’s recent piece about LeWitt. Especially the part where he says:
This may be the most perfect union of contemporary art and architecture in the United States. . It’s our Sistine.
If you visit the courthouse in Springfield as he suggests you should also stop by the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford where you’ll find another spectacular LeWitt drawing.

Patron Blog: Youth Inspired by MASS MoCA
Below is an e-mail we received from one of our patrons. We are glad to know that visiting MASS MoCA had such a dramatic effect on these visitors and inspired them to create their own art.

Dear MASS MoCA,
I am a friend and mentor to Peter, age 11 yrs and a 5th grade student in Old Deerfield, Ma. For several years we’ve gotten together weekly for a variety of activities here in Western MA. To be candid, Peter is far more interested in baseball, his two dogs and cheeseburgers (maybe even math and science) than modern art. With some reluctance he agreed to visit your institution with me this past week on 3/19/08. As the Kidspace was in transition, his reaction was based entirely on the “adult” experience that MASS MoCA offers.

March Flickr Finds:Little City
I’m devoting this month’s Flickr Finds to a piece that has been de-installed from our galleries as part of the Eastern Standard exhibition. David Cotrerrell’s South Facing 4:3, was such an intriguing piece to have greeting guests when they got up to the second floor. I was sorry to see it leave our galleries, but I can’t wait to see what will be on the second floor next. Here’s to the next exhibition These Days, which opens on April 4 with equally intriguing work.
