I want to be a super model

I should admit that I am a reality TV show closet junkie.  Especially if the show is model related. The posing, the outfits, the drama. I eat it all up and at the end of the season am always left wanting more.

A few weeks ago we got in a shipment of brand new tee shirts for HARDWARE the MASS MoCA Store and I jumped at the chance to take our very own photos for the weekly e-mail blast. I asked a few of our interns to be the models for a quick photo shoot and we were off. All of us had a lot of fun thinking up poses and we were lucky enough to use the  LeWitt drawing that is at the top of the stairs on the 2nd floor (the only drawing currently on view) as a backdrop.

We ended up with a great photo, but I thought it might be fun to show off the new shirts in the photos we didn’t use.

Store mannequins.

An attempted in-air shot.

Showing off the designs.

Oops, eyes closed.

These shirt designs, two NEW Badlands and one Eastern Standard , are on sale in HARDWARE the MASS MoCA store now for $20 a piece.

OneWeb Day happening in the lobby NOW

We just got our very own YouTube Town Hall station set up in the lobby as part of OneWebDay thanks to our good friend Brett McDowell (Check out his blog for some insight into what is happening today). For those of you who haven’t heard about OWD here is an excerpt from an explanation posted by OWD founder Susan Crawford on her blog.

“OneWebDay (OWD) is a global event, like an Earth Day for the Internet. It is a platform people can use to educate and activate others about issues that are important for the Internet’s future. As OWD grows, it will build a global constituency that will work to protect and develop the benefits that the Internet brings to society. Every year, OWD focuses on a key Internet value. In light of this year’s historic US election and the rise of a new online “public square” all over the world, we are focusing on online political participation.”

If you are going to be out and about today in North Adams stop by our lobby until 3 PM and share your thoughts in our station. If you can’t actually be with us, keep your eyes on the You Tube page which Brett will be updating throughout the day with new videos.

Also check out the OneWebDay website which includes complete maps of other participating locations.

I Love You

I love our members
So much that I can’t help but
Write really bad haiku.

Okay, so maybe my poetry skills aren’t that great, but I really do love all of the MASS MoCA members. Your support helps us continue our mission of commissioning, facilitating, and exhibiting the best and most cutting-edge contemporary art. To show our appreciation in non-lyrical form, we invite you to MEMBER APPRECIATION DAY!

On Saturday, September 27th we’re offering all kinds of great discounts and activities for members to say thank you for supporting us. Members can:

  • Bring a friend for free! Show your friends how great the MASS MoCA galleries are. Each member can bring one guest for free gallery admission.
  • Attend an artist talk! Artist Alexis Rockman, whose painting South is featured in the current Badlands exhibit, will talk about his work and its relation to the environment. 2 pm. FREE for members; $5 for not-yet members. Tickets are required from the Box Office (413.MoCA.111).
  • Get a performance preview! At noon, hear artist-in-residence Nick Brooke give a short explanation of his Time and Motion Study, which will be given as a work-in-progress showing at 8 pm in the Hunter Center.
  • Save more at the store! Get 20% off at Hardware: The MASS MoCA Store and stock up on all your favorite toys, books, jewelry and more inspired by contemporary art.
  • Save more on a snack! Receive 20% off at MASS MoCA cafĂ© Lickety Split. Nothing hits the spot after a day in the galleries like their Harrell’s ice cream. Or enjoy drinks, lunch, or baked goods.
  • Take the kids on a tour! At 11 am take a free tour specially designed for kids and families.
  • Learn more about the art! Take a free gallery tour and learn more about the art on display. Tours will be available at noon, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 5 pm.

I hope to see you there! If I run into you I might just compose a spontaneous haiku about my undying love for members.

Extremely sincerely yours,
Rebecca Rice
