From Massachusetts to Maine

img_6188.jpg

If you’ve been in the cafe at MASS MoCA this month you might have spied this device out the window and wondered what it was. The sculpture is a prototype for one by Spencer Finch that will be installed on the US/Canada border in Calais, Maine, as part of a new work. Spencer installed it in our backyard for a few months to see how it stands up to the elements.

Travelled to MassMOCA this weekend and was thoroughly impressed with Spence Finch’s installation. Absolutely love the “bugs” - all the Rorschach tests, the candlewatt room, the night sky piece, and the series of drawings that dealt with elusive and transient qualities (invisible ink). Without a doubt, my favorite piece was the little at the door charting the approximate location of the left leg of a rainbow.

I will continue to watch his work and look for more of his shows.
